IF you treat for mites, YOU NEED to do THIS!!
As a beekeeper everyone needs to make a crucial decision- to treat for mites or to be treatment free. If you decide to treat for mites you have quite a few options out there and you need to make the choice that works for you. I talk about my experience of having BOTH a treatment free beeyard and one where I use Formic Pro and in my 10 years of beekeeping experience what I do and what works for me. #beekeeperlife #bees #newbeekeepers#forthehive#formicpro

How to keep a caught swarm from leaving your bee yard again!!
Просмотров 1 тыс.3 месяца назад
There’s nothing like the thrill and excitement of catching a swarm of bees! Especially for a beekeeper! Free bees means you are not spending 150- 200 plus bucks to start a new hive in your bee yard. I try my best to split my hives and manage my bee yard to reduce swarming, but even with a strong hive that overwinters and is split, some hives will swarm no matter what! If a swarm happens from yo...

Swarming vs Absconding (what’s the difference)
Просмотров 4774 месяца назад
In this video we talk about the difference between your bee colony swarming and absconding. What causes them and when do they happen? Also, did your hive really abscond or are just trying to save face and not admit your bees just died out over time??
Why do beehives swarm??
Просмотров 1924 месяца назад
So why exactly do hives swarm? Do you want your hive to swarm? Beekeepers need to know why hives swarm to hopefully minimize it, unless you want your honeybees to swarm!
GIANT Swarm caught at night!! ( nothing goes as planned)

I noticed a giant bee swarm, most likely from my own bee yard, on a tree. The problem was that I noticed the swarm at 8:30 at night!!! Catching a bee swarm is fun, but dealing with this swarm in the dark was not!!!

Thanks for the video! This was very interesting. I have a neighbor who has several elderberry bushes growing in her horse pasture, like you do! They were there prior to her moving in and those bushes are over 8 feet tall and located all throughout her horse pasture. The horses don't seem to bother them at all. The bushes produce very abundantly. Seems like the horse pasture is the perfect place for them! I have a single bush in my yard which I planted 2 years ago and this summer I made over 12 pints of elderberry syrup from that bush alone. Elderberry is a wonderful plant-- so easy and so productive.

When we setup I put out a Pint of honey with coffee stir sticks so they can dip into the jar and taste it. That's the hook, if they taste it they usually buy it. Try that next time. I sold $820 of honey at a watermelon festival at a town near us.

I know someone who recently got some poults and apparently they're having tremendous feather loss. My friend mentioned that one of them looks like a rotisserie chicken under the wings. Do you have any ideas about what can cause this? My friend thinks that they're probably molting but it sounds more serious and I want to help him figure it out. Edit: They have no signs of parasites

You really made me smile. I have two Narragansett. I'm not 100% sure who's a male/female. I've lost one to a fox in the last week who was 5 weeks old. Very depressing. The others died from issues with temp fluctuations and disease. I did not know they were so fragile up to 8 weeks. I absolutely love them and spend way too much time keeping them happy. The 12 week old is really thriving and I think and hope he's a tom.

Sourwood is top shelf! AGREED I would place these on the top shelf too.. Big Island Wilelaiki Blossom 'Christmas Berry' its is smooth..subtke tropical floral notes.. so hard to find. Arizona Mesquite & Acacia... Lots of it, consistent with strong classic honey flavor but so versatile and not expensive. California Native Buckwheat is dark like sorghum mollases but has carmel notes but not bitter like traditional annual buckwheat (same name different plants) because the California native plant is a perennial and blooms July thru September along the coastal canyons. ..love Sourwood.. 😊 .

I had the same drowning issue you had. But I modified the floats by gluing vinyl screen on the underside of them. And now it's the best feeder I've ever had. It's the fastest, I can have it as a trickle feeder and I can use it to open feed. It's seriously hard to beat.

We bought our house and property that hadn’t had anyone living in it since the 70’s. I planted a garden for the last two years in an 30’x20’ area that is contained with chain link fencing. My garden grew fantastic, like unbelievably fantastic. I found out that the owners back in the 70’s had a daughter who raised show lambs in that area in the chain linked fencing. That lamb manure is over 50 years old! There is also a horse stable with 3 stalls just full of 50 year old horse manure. I have enough fertilizer to last my life time, and who ever gardens here after I’m gone. I now joke about having antique manure fertilizing my garden, flowers, trees…etc.
